Karl Knauer wins WorldStar Award 2022 and hits the one hundred mark
100th award win with plastic-free toothbrush packaging
1st place in the "Health and Personal Care" category
The international panel of experts presented the award to the packaging specialist from the Black Forest, along with GSK Consumer Healthcare and M+C Schiffer this year, for the toothbrush packaging of the Dr.Best and Aquafresh brands in the "Health and Personal Care" category. The award-winning cardboard blister packs are completely plastic-free and made from sustainable and recycled materials. This switch and the replacement of the plastic cover will save up to 325 tonnes of plastic annually.
Designed with the future in mind
What makes this solution so special is the fact that the innovative patched window, which still allows you to see the unmistakable oscillating head, is made of sustainable cellulose fibres. This has a decisive advantage not only for the company, but for consumers too, since the packaging can be completely disposed of in the paper bin without any need for separation. This development is a clear indication of where the journey in the packaging segment is heading. After all, more and more manufacturers are responding to the demand for sustainable packaging in the cosmetics and healthcare sector, too, and are switching to zero-plastic solutions. If, like Karl Knauer’s packaging, they meet all the criteria for advertising effectiveness, feel and handling, they do more than just attract buyers’ attention; they are recognised by the industry too. It is with good reason that the packaging solution has already been presented with the 2021 German Packaging Award and the 2021 European Carton Excellence Award.
The various accolades are absolutely essential for nomination for the WorldStar Award. Only packaging that has previously won a significant national or regional award is eligible for entry into this competition. A total of 440 packaging solutions from 37 different countries were submitted this year – which is why the responsible individuals at Karl Knauer are thrilled to once again be counted among the select group of winners. And not only that, but also to be receiving an award for the 100th time since 2006, as mentioned above.
