Karl Knauer offsets carbon emissions with a tree planting project in Germany
From tree to packaging and back again: a cycle with a future
Working on behalf of the German Printing and Media Industries Federation (bvdm), the foundation Stiftung Unternehmen Wald has confirmed that almost 600 trees will be planted in the forests around Granestausee reservoir in the Harz Mountains of Lower Saxony to offset the energy balance for 2024. This measure is a significant contribution to stabilising the local climate and strengthening Germany’s forest resources.
It isn’t a coincidence that the project is so close to home as Karl Knauer sees trees as more than a symbol of sustainability. Wood is a natural raw material and the basis for many of the materials that Karl Knauer uses to produce packaging and promotional products made of paper, cardboard and flute. A healthy forest is far more than a reflection of environmental responsibility; it’s a prerequisite for securing sustainable value chains.
“Climate protection isn’t an abstract issue for us, but a concrete responsibility that we tackle every day,” emphasises Stefanie Wieckenberg, Managing Partner at Karl Knauer KG. “ By planting close to 600 trees in the Harz Mountains, we are consciously committing ourselves to the place where our products originate: the forest. This is our way of taking responsibility for the raw material we work with every day – and showing that sustainability begins locally and has a global impact.”
Through this initiative, Karl Knauer KG is once again underlining its commitment to embracing ecological responsibility with a holistic and future-oriented approach.
