Karl Knauer shortlisted for Sustainability Award
After being the first company to be awarded three prizes at the PSI Sustainability Award in 2018, including prize of Overall Winner of Europe as the most sustainable company, the packaging specialist is now nominated for five categories. The Sustainability Award of the Advertising Media Industry is especially noteworthy, because not only a single product but the overall corporate sustainability profile of the participating producers is evaluated and awarded. The PSI jury believes that the Karl Knauer company from the Black Forest with its rich tradition is well ahead in the categories Economic Excellence, Environmental Excellence, Social Excellence, Environmental Initiative and Social Initiative.
The experts were impressed by Karl Knauer's ability to develop and implement sustainable production methods alongside socially and ecologically viable concepts. For example, the packaging specialist has made a ground-breaking effort to help reconcile family and career with the “Fliegerkiste” day care centre for children. The centre was established in 2011 in cooperation with another regional company of HYDRO Systems KG and the Municipality of Biberach. The bee pasture and hive, established by Karl Knauer in spring 2020, are also full of life on warmer days. This relatively new nature and environmental protection project is not only yielding sweet results in the form of honey. “We want to share our values of mutual respect, but also respect for our environment, with our children and our junior staff. This is why we are engaged at local level and provide an example of how economic activity can be combined with social and ecological responsibility,” explains Martin Glatz, Head of Sales, Marketing, Research and Development and member of the management board at Karl Knauer. “The fact that this commitment has been recognised by the nomination of the PSI Sustainability Award jury, among others, is of course a source of great satisfaction to us.”
