Cheers: To tomorrow’s gifts!

Gift packaging 2022/23

Gift packaging 2022/23

In the mood to celebrate? Cheers!  Weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, and of course corporate parties and public holidays: People are looking forward to spending many happy hours together again – especially after pandemic-related lockdowns. As a consequence of this, gifts, presents and tokens of appreciation are playing an increasingly important role at present. The gift packaging market is enjoying similar levels of positive development – e.g. for the packaging of wine, sparkling wine, high-quality food produce, and personalised gifts.

But what does contemporary packaging for the gift industry actually look like? Which designs are popular right now? What role does sustainability play when it comes to gift giving? What do end customers really think is important? Germany's market leader for gift packaging Karl Knauer from Biberach offers retailers ‘the in thing’ in time for the festive season.

“Based on our detailed trend analysis, gift experts are currently focussed on three trends: The colour black, naturalness, and finishing options. Consistently geared to market surveys and customer requirements, we are presenting the wine and gift trade with no fewer than eight new gift packaging products – all of them are real eye-catchers and perfect for many occasions,” says Thomas Schultheiß, Key Account Manager at Karl Knauer, explaining the new packaging products for 2022/23.

Black, refined, glossy

Nomen est omen: Sparkling, glossy, and with golden curves – this is how the new “Cheers” packaging will arrive. The exquisite black cardboard stands out thanks to its golden curves and bubbly pearls that caress an imaginary bottle. The Cheers design features a 1-piece folding box in sculpture form as well as 2-piece and 3-piece sparkling wine and wine gift cartons.

The “Signum” design, which has the potential to become a classic, also ensures a glossy, effective gift look. As a circle, the gold design can be a symbol of many things: from the cycle of life to the impression of a wine bottle or a even a Christmas bauble. As this gift packaging box is very successful and perfect for a wide range of applications, Karl Knauer has supplemented the design series with the printed 1, 2 and 3-piece folding boxes with no embossing.

Gold continues to play a major role in the 2022/23 packaging market. Fine-textured, golden elements form an exciting contrast to the matt black in the new “Goldene Rebe” design.

Natural, stylish, likeable

Sustainability is a continuing trend. More and more people are seeking to express their environmental responsibility with natural materials – this is true for gifts too. A particular advantage here is that a lot of gift packaging is made from roughly 80 percent recycled paper. As a neutral alternative, Karl Knauer is now offering the “Heimat” regional design, which has been introduced with great success. The new “Old Style” design as a 2-piece and 3-piece wine gift carton is impressive thanks to its light, restored wood look and offers sufficient space for customised (logo) embossing.

Another innovation: The felt model with deceptively real imitation felt structure and decorative stitching will make you want to touch it. With its detailed implementation and velvety feel, gift baskets and gift trays become a noble, high-quality tableaux and still retain a natural look.

Festive vibes

Bordeaux colour and black represent festivity. With gold finishing, its appearance is even more festive. The new “Tannengold” design builds on this, with the matt red look adorning the entire front with golden fir trees, stars, and chains. But even in black, the optimal contrast between golden elements and the matt black background makes it an impressive design.

Advent calendars with customised filling now available too

Last but not least, the gift trade can look forward to a multifunctional advent calendar. Inside, the included dividers make it easy to fill and separate 24 small gifts. The potential applications are more than diverse: It is possible to package not only small bottles (e.g. 0.25 l wine, 0.2 l sparkling wine, 0.33 l beer), but also many other surprises. The design is dominated by the festive red with light snowfall. On the snow-white reverse, lines with stars are arranged to allow you to communicate individual wishes and greetings.
