Bright cosmetics packaging from the Black Forest wins the display Superstar Award 2019
World class in three categories
Karl Knauer KG impressed the international jury of the WorldStar Award 2019 with its two innovative, luminous packages. The packaging specialist from Biberach won in the "Beverages" category with its luminous Coca-Cola label. In addition, the decision-makers at Karl Knauer are delighted to receive awards in the "Luxury" and "Others" segments. The sensational packaging "Black Panther" with HiLight lighting, submitted by PepsiCo and developed and realised by Karl Knauer, stood out.
Since 1970, only packaging which has won an important national or regional prize has been eligible for the WorldStar Award. Decisive for winning an award by the international jury is that the packaging is unique in its category and in its market environment and is better in design than comparable solutions.
Coca-Cola shines at the POS
With the bottle label developed for Coca-Cola, Karl Knauer won the German Design Award, the German Innovation Award and the German Packaging Award last year. The light effect of the label, which is activated by pressing a printed “play” sign, is so strong that it stands out even in bright daylight and is able to attract everyone’s attention. This is possible because of printed, flexible organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), which are not only extremely effective in advertising, but also completely sustainable and environmentally friendly. The label was realised by Karl Knauer in cooperation with INURU GmbH using the HiLight - printed OLEDs® technology.
Big show at PepsiCo and the Marvel Filmstudios
To mark the release of the blockbuster "Black Panther", Karl Knauer developed packaging for PepsiCo, New York and the Marvel Filmstudios, Los Angeles, which quickly turned into one of the most successful international influencer campaigns. If you hold the black box in your hands, you immediately know why. It shows where the journey will go in terms of product design and packaging. The exterior, with its sophisticated, black 3D UV gloss finish on natural cardboard, has an optical and tactile appeal, reflecting the African look and feel of the Black Panther film. When the high quality box with magnetic closure is opened, a can in the design of one of the film’s heroes stands on a podium within a spaceship cockpit. By pressing on the Black Panther logo, a 20-second light choreography is started, which presents the Ice Tea "Brisk" by PepsiCo in a special way using ultra-thin HiLight - smart LEDs® technology.
“We are of course very pleased that we were able to win one of the world's most important awards in the packaging industry with two products at the same time.
