The apprenticeship at Karl Knauer takes place at the Biberach plant and at the vocational school (currently located in Kehl) on 1-2 days per week.
Areas of work/industriesQualified employees for warehouse logistics are employed throughout all industries. Any company that has a warehouse represents a potential place of employment.
ActivitiesQualified employees for warehouse logistics receive incoming goods in logistics centres, industrial business, forwarding companies and in the mail order industry. They verify the product quantity and condition based on the accompanying paperwork. They manage the unloading, sorting and storage of goods in previously assigned locations goods in a professional manner. In doing so, particular attention is paid that the goods are stored under optimal conditions and they are responsible for the regulation of temperature and humidity, as an example. In the shipping department they plan the delivery tours and determine the most cost beneficial type of loading. They coordinate the items on a packing list, package the goods and create the shipping documents or customs declarations. Furthermore they load trucks, containers or railway cars; they operate forklifts and secure the freight from shifting or leaking. Beyond these tasks, qualified employees for warehouse logistics optimise the internal informational, media and value flows from procurement to sale. They ascertain places to procure goods, process offer comparisons, order goods and initiate payment thereof. Calculation of warehouse key ratios, inventory work and simple year-end close tasks are also part of their duties.
Place of workDuring loading and unloading of trucks, qualified employees for warehouse logistics often spend their time in loading areas that are subject to these elements. For example, they load and unload trucks using forklifts, which are also used within the confines of the warehouse and production facilities. In the office, they are responsible for the documentation of product storage using a computer programme.
