Duration of apprenticeship3.5 years
The apprenticeship at Karl Knauer takes place at the Biberach plant and at the vocational school (currently located in Offenburg) on 1-2 days per week.
Areas of work/industriesThis includes electronic technicians who work in production engineering, in particular for manufacturers of process engineering systems.
Electronic installation companies that install technical building equipment and power companies also offer employment opportunities. Beyond this, you can pursue your career in all sectors where production and industrial installations are used and maintained. Possible implementation areas range from the manufacturing industry right through to airports or hospitals.
ActivitiesThese include power supply, industrial installation or modern building system and automation technology.
Electrical technician for industrial technology; installation of electrical components and equipment in a professional manner; conducting regular maintenance, expanding and modernising them and, if necessary, repairing them. You will install high-performance systems, energy and information lines as well as the electrical equipment of machines with the corresponding automation systems. Electrical technicians programme, configure and test systems and security installations. You will be responsible for showing future users how to operate the system correctly during commissioning of the systems. You will organise the assembly of systems and monitor work performed by the service providers and other craftsmen. Electrical technicians for production engineering are professional electricians in terms of accident prevention regulations.
Place of workIn workshops, electrical technicians combine components into control mechanisms which they implement in their own workshops or in the customers’ facilities which employ these systems in their automated systems. Documentation of results is done on their computers. On-site assembly trips to customers in Germany and abroad may be possible and an integral part of the job at some employers.
